ART AS THERAPY

We invite you to join us, Smadar and Galit, in an attempt to introduce the queen of the object theatre – the puppet – into the prop-free space of DVT.

Puppet theatre is an art with rooted in the world of Myth, magic and imagination. The puppet is often employed in an archetypical, mythical role – but is also a very effective tool of personal expression. It invites dialog between different parts of the self, between presentations of me and the other, between the puppeteer, the puppet and spectator.

DVT- Developmental Transformations combines Movement therapy and Drama therapy. In DVT our bodies act freely in a child-like arena of playfulness, traditionally- without the help of any prop, without the baseline of any script or guideline. Our tools in DVT are the free spirit of improvisation, a flow of free associations, of movement, images and drama.

What happens to the clean-slate world of DVT when a puppet walks in? What will happen to the puppet as it enters the imaginary, unstructured world of DVT? In this encounter anything and everything is possible, and creativity is the only rule.

Galit Davidson, Clinical psychologist and puppeteer. MA in Clinical Psychology and in Art history, graduate of the Israeli "Play Ground" DVT institute. Teacher and Director of the "puppet therapy" programme at the School of Puppetry Art, Holon.
